Hair loss caused by clip, extension or wig traction. How to avoid it?

Have you ever seen our catalogue?

It is a controversial topic the one about clip traction and other types of adhesion to one’s own hair using partial systems and extensions.

It concerns any kind of system: be it a natural hair or synthetic wig, an extension or a partial system, such as integration microline, which requires grabbing one’s hair.

Clearly discarding all partial or total adhesive systems which adheres on the hairless scalp with glue or tapes, all the rest of products require an adhesion method which causes, to a greater or lesser extent, traction: rings, clips, braids…

What does traction depend on and how does it change?

Well, it depends on different factors, and they are not all equals.

Length and density influence a lot.

But, if it is a fixed solution, the most important one is that it is not possible to remove it at home, so being removable.

Removable solution wig.

If you use a removable hair system, it allows you to rest and feel comfortable overnight by removing it while you sleep.

There are several remove and put methods, but the most common one consists in sewing some clips or special combs, called “invisible”.

Why are they called invisible? It is not that they disappears from human sight just like Harry Potter with the invisibility cloak!

The thing is that they are placed just under the hair  system base. They cling to biological hair and the system hair covers them completely.

In partial systems, clips become clear only if someone touch us with his or her fingers “searching” and “feeling” deeply through our scalp. However, if someone caresses our head and hair with his or her palm open, like usually happens, he or she won’t detect anything.

On the other hand wearing for months or years a series of clips with such features, otherwise they would not bear the system, can damage one’s hair in the long run.

But there are ways to prevent or decrease this risk:

  • Traction of a hair system with clips doesn’t mean hair loss and baldness.

Clips include a small protective band, in silicone, which prevents hairs from breaking because of the metallic “loop” that presses them. If, without exceptions, we always keep it in the same spots, it is normal for hairs to get weaker. Moreover, clips can irritate and inflame the skin, by pulling hair follicles for hours. However, the percentage of hairs which are uprooted is usually minimum and they tend to regrow unless the subject suffers from a particular form of alopecia, called scarring. In this case systems with clips are not recommended.

  • You must change its position!

“No, no, it’s too hard!” This is what many users say! But in reality, unsewing and sewing is much easier than what you think. It is as easy as sewing a button! The trick is to use an adequate strong thread.
“Why change their position?” Because if one day they fall, it is better to hold a clip in your hand, than a tuft of hair. Therefore we recommend changing their position every 2-3 weeks.

  • Alternate clips in integration microline or partial trichological systems.

Usually systems with basic clips have 6 or 7 clip / combs. That doesn’t mean you have to use them all, but four support points are enough: front, rear and lateral. Take this opportunity to “swap closed clips”.
One day you can put two in front and two in the back, another day put them crossed, another day make a ponytail so that you don’t need the rear support. Or you can make two side braids integrating them with your biological hair making this part well attached.
The secret is to change and don’t worry, it is impossible for the hair system to move even though if all clips are well stretched and tight.

  • Rotated not tight.

It reminds me the legendary James Bond’s quote: “Shaken, not stirred” referring to vodka martini.
It is a trick which a lot of people don’t know and for this reason we are going to share it:
instead of using the clip directly, rotate the thread below. This will produce a twisted effect which will act as a break, as if your hair were “protected”. The attachment is better and creates a lot less traction.
