Hair systems and wigs

According to the vocabulary, a wig is a fake hat. Several synonyms are used: toupee, hair prosthesis, hair systems, replacement and some even say “capillary attachment”.

In English, this kind of wigs is called “HairPiece“. From now on, when we talk about prosthesis, systems or wigs, we refer to the same thing.

Fortunately there are medicines able to control some types of alopecia. Androgenic alopecia or Alopecia Areata often have a solution or at least they can be controlled in the long term.

However, for irreversible alopecia or in cases of imminent hair loss, where treatments take too much time to become effective, we can definitively or temporally use a wig.

Permanent wigs:

A permanent system is the one we will use for a long period of time or even forever. This means it is connected to our scalp 24 hours a day and it will accompany us in every moment, but it will be removed to clean it about every week and also to deeply clean our scalp.

There are some kind of alopecia (advanced androgenic ones, some with scars) which unfortunately have no solutions.

Excluding a surgery, the only possible solution to hide them is a permanent wig.

Temporary wigs:

People who have to use certain medicines or strong treatments such as chemotherapy, in general, lose almost all their hairs over two or three months. There is no medicine yet, which helps to counteract the effect on the hairs of those strong medicines in our body. The reality is that in complex situations such as a disease which puts in danger our lives, hair pass into the background.

However, as soon as the patient starts to recover, among his first concerns there are the side effects of these medicines: hair loss.

In these cases, there is no other alternative than a temporary wig, until hairs don’t go back to their normal cycle of growth and it is enough long to allow the patient to feel comfortable.

The same thing happens in cases of Alopecia Areata, Traumatic Alopecia, telogenic Effluvium or any kind of reversible alopecia.

In reality there is no particular difference between a permanent wig and a temporary wig. What we should consider is their intrinsic quality. If our plan is to use it for three months, we can consider a classic wig which isn’t necessarily invisible. If, instead, we are going to always use it, it is imperative to purchase two high quality wigs(to alternate them) having an invisible base.

Wigs, prejudices and lack of information:

Unfortunately, wigs are still something people don’t talk about.

There are too much prejudices and, especially among men, it is a matter which causes jokes and mockeries.

What many don’t know is that a lot of people use literally undetectable hair systems. Actors, singers and ordinary people, have new generation wigs which are not visible, not even from few centimeters away.

Mentioning actors who use these systems wouldn’t make much sense, but to get an idea, some vip, whose hair maybe we envy, in reality has and wears a wig.

Same thing with women. There are several actress and models who use this kind of system.

And we are not talking about applique or fake ones, but wigs which cover most of or all the scalp.

Virtually invisible wigs:

The links of these systems are made of a semitransparent synthetic material, which becomes invisiblein contact with the scalp. Indeed, they cover the front line and entries in such a way as to look natural.

This is exactly what distinguishes them from old wigs: they allow us to show our hair from every angle and show the front without any fears.

If well placed, joints are not visible between wig and scalp, the base literally fades away in contact with the skin.

It is very difficult to locate something “extraordinary” in these systems. These are wigs which can be used fearless on the beach, in swimming pools and even while practicing extreme sports.

The most important detail in order to feel safe is the way they are put on and the glue used.

It is necessary to highlight that these wigs are used by people of all ages and sexes.

Maintenance can be performed at home, in a specialized center or by a hairdresser who knows about hair systems.

Depending on the brand, quality and type of adhesive, it will be necessary to disinfect (removing the system) once a week, once every 15 days or once a month.

There are different brands/ models of systems which are removed only once a month. We can have a shower with the systems, wash our hair, practice sports and live an ordinary life without the need for maintenance for an entire month.

Lots of people are not aware of the existence of these new generation wigs, often used by actors, models and vips.
